India of Hunger ... A theatrical sketch

Characters
Jamal – A 14 years old boy.
Father – Father of Jamal.
Raghav and Shiva – Two relatives of Jamal father’s friend.

Scene 1 –
*Jamal is getting ready to attend a marriage reception of his father’s friend.
Father – Jamal are you ready son?
Jamal – Father, 2 minutes more.
Father – Quickly son, we are getting late for the reception.
Scene 2 –
*The father and son were having a informal talk while travelling on the road to the marriage.
Jamal – Father, I wonder why the poverty rate is so high in our country. People don’t even get the basic two meals a day. Is the govt. to be held responsibility for this?
Father – Yes, The government hold maximum responsibility of it. Govt. is unable to provide people with proper education and employment. This is why they are poor and unable to buy their own food.
Jamal – Can’t we citizens help to resolve this situation?
Father (annoyingly) – You keep quite now, we have reached the reception.
Scene 3
*Both of them came out of their car and went to the stage to bless and congratulate the married couple. They were requested to have their dinner after that.
*Jamal took his food in a plate and went to corner to eat where he came across two people Raghav and Shiva. They were talking India's development status and the reasons for still lingering around poverty. Jamal was quietly listening them.
Raghav – Shiva don’t you think, India’s hunger rate is increasing instead of declining?
Shiva – Yes! We can’t help it either. I tried singing up a petition online at change.org regarding this issue. But It looked as if nothing happened after that.
Raghav – Yes, even I shared a lot of images regarding this issue on my facebook page. But I don’t think it mattered much to people. I think we can’t also help to resolve this people. The government is unable to provide them with food so how can we provide them?
*Just when he said this, he threw his plate in the dustbin which had food for a person in it. Jamal couldn't stand it and reacted to speak.

Jamal – Raghav uncle, you speak about removing poverty and hunger but to the irony you are furtheringthis by throwing your filled plate. My father said the government is responsibility for this hunger and poverty but what I saw now contradicts his statement. Have you ever thought of giving the leftover food to the people in slums next street? They find it hard to arrange one meal per day. They food you dumped does no good rather it will be thrown where the dogs will eat them or they will decay to waste. Ah! This is so disturbing. We people are to be also equally blamed for hunger and poverty that exists in our society. All my questions are answered today.  I would suggest you to get a small amount of food and refill if you desire more so that the leftover food can be given to the needy and not dumped.
*Every one started clapping to Jamal’s words. Raghav also realized his mistake and apologized to Jamal.

Mass message – So friends don’t you think, if every body start thinking like Jamal then our India can be a better place to live in? A place with less poverty and hunger rate. A place where people can manage to get at least two meals per day.
